About Me
About Me
Hi there! I’m so glad you found my page—I can’t wait to connect with you!
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Elementary Education, with dual certification in General and Special Education. My journey into the world of literacy began during my Master’s program in Literacy, and I’ve never looked back. As a NYS Certified Literacy Specialist with over 20 years of teaching experience, I’m trained in Orton Gillingham and Speech to Print approaches—two highly effective methods I use to support all the learners I work with.
How It All Started
When I was hired by the NYCDOE in 2004, I was assigned to teach Kindergarten in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classroom. I panicked. Here I was, a brand-new teacher, tasked with teaching little ones phonics and how to read. On that first day, I seriously considered running out of the classroom.
But little did I know, teaching literacy would become my greatest passion. Teaching young learners to read was hard work, but it was the best work. I spent many wonderful years in Kindergarten before transitioning to the role of SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services) and intervention teacher. It was here that I truly fell in love with small-group instruction and multisensory intervention work.
The Leap to Entrepreneurship
In the fall of 2021, I took a leap of faith and left the public school system. It was terrifying to leave behind what I loved and had known for so long, but I knew I wanted to make an even bigger impact. By late 2022, I launched The Phonics Framework, my online consulting business to help schools, educators, organizations, and families craft meaningful and purposeful phonics and reading instruction. My mission is simple: to make a difference in the lives of students by ensuring they have access to high-quality, evidence-based literacy support.
Why I Do What I Do
I firmly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn how to read and to feel confident doing so. Early literacy instruction is the foundation for lifelong learning, and I’m deeply passionate about raising awareness around its importance.
Whether you’re a parent seeking support for your child, an educator looking to strengthen your teaching practices, or an organization aiming to improve literacy outcomes, I’m here to help. Contact me today to learn how we can work together to create lasting change.
I’d love to be someone you can lean on in your literacy journey—whether as a parent or an educator. Supporting students and creating confident readers and spellers is my life’s work, and I’d be honored to be a part of yours. Let’s make a difference together!
